Yes, but neither will happen for many years yet. April won’t be born for another nine years or so, and I think the bookstore is still at least ten years away (that is, assuming that Lynn even bothers to follow the original timeline; she’s already said that she doesn’t intend to let the characters age in real time, so whether April or the bookstore even come into existence at all remains to be seen.)
Hello I’m new here. I only wish the author of the this strip kept going. There could be a whole new generation of family to write about. I still enjoy FBORFW. I guess show more stuff the kids can do. Have a great weekend.
One of the reasons Lynn Johnston ended the strip and went into repeats is because the storylines were getting too complicated and there were getting to be too many characters. She went back to running and updating her old strips because she could focus on just the core Patterson family with relatively simple artwork.
When you consider that during the 29 years of the original strip, Michael grew up, got married, and had two kids of his own, Lynn Johnston already wrote about a whole new generation of family.
I really like the strip, but even cartoonists need to retire (well, sort of in Lynn’s case).
me too, but didn’t Lynn have some sort of health issues that made it difficult for her to continue as she had been? i seem to remember reading something to that effect.
It seems to me that with the new rendition of the family growing up, things are happening more quickly than they did the first time around, which makes sense considering how long the old strip was in existence.
Ok this has been said before but I don’t mind writing it again. Originally Lynn was going to retire completely and spend time with her husband and travel the world. However while they were going over how to end the strip, Lynn found out her husband was cheating on her with a woman that was at least 20 years younger. She decided to come back and only semi retire to get her life refocused.

Here’s an article from last September that mentions the breakup of Johnston’s marriage:

Grandpa Jim’s death was mentioned in the Sunday wrapup strip last summer:

Thanks for that Sternvogel. I didn’t know the reason for their departure either.
