She won’t split it because that would be admitting that she wants some. So, it’s just a nibble. This must be rather universal – my wife does it, too. Now, I just automatically take about a third and either put it on her plate or at least carve it out mentally so I know the portion I’m not going to get.
She doesn’t actually want one because that’s the same as admitting she wants to eat a lot of sweet, fatty food, which is bad for her. So she will just taste some of John’s, which means he won’t eat as much, so he will be healthier… you see? If they actually split it, then… omg… how can you people not understand?!
My husband and would just naturally ask them to bring two plates because we’re going to split it. It’s idiotic for Elly to act like she’s not having dessert but the reason for it is that for some stupid reason women still have the idea that we can’t have dessert because we’re watching our figures.
I agree with the minority- conventional wisdom is calories off someone else’s dessert don’t count. It may be illogical but it’s a kind of a game in life that is fun for many and unites different generations. I’ve seen it everywhere, and the otherwise intelligent and logical are by no means exempt.
There are so many things women aren’t supposed to do, but want to do. They find ways to get around the rules.
Personally, I always order dessert when I can, and nobody touches my dessert if they know what’s good for them. People call me a glutton for being unapologetic about eating lots of sweets, but I just ignore them. Most women don’t like that label, it’s one of the worst things a woman can be.
You sound like a gem, cdward. I find it amusing how the dessert gets slowly larger in the last 3 panels to where it starts out almost gone to where it’s only partly eaten on Elly’s side.
That’s the way women are, so, John, you might as well bite your tongue and eat your 1/3 and let Elly enjoy her “half” and avoid an argument or hurt feelings.
LMAO catlady1 you rock! And dam-n straight on your suggestion! :o))
Hahahah lightenup I noticed that too! Thought it was just me, lol :o)
Oh Susan001, sometimes the lady doth protest too much!! - like I hinted at in my comment on yesterday’s strip. Ahh well, at least you liked the dessert! ;o)
@Susan001 – sorry, I just read your reply post from yesterday. Actually, my youth wasn’t so happy either – most of my memories are either angry or depressing. But I decided when I was a kid that I would be a better parent than what I had. So I was determined to have kids and try to change my family’s destiny (typically people treat their kids how they were treated). I am definitely not the best parent, but there’s a lot of love in my family and I get a lot of compliments on my kids’ behavior so I guess I’m not doing too badly. It’s a daily struggle, but I am stubborn/determined and I want to finally have a happy, loving family so I work on it. I’m sorry to hear of your past, and I hope you have a loving support system now.
Loved how her eyes bugged out. If I was her husband I’d let her keep stealing some from mne then order a new one once she’d had enough. And if you see yourself here STOP EATING OTHER PEOPLE’S FOOD!

Also because the calories don’t count if they come from someone else’s plate. :)

It’s a safe bet that they’re not eating at Swiss Chalet. The desserts there aren’t anywhere near that good!

I’ve only been there once since being in Canada, and I had dessert but I don’t remember what I had so you may have a point.
