Susan001 oh yes I bet he does - and it doesn’t do a child any harm not to be glued to the parent/parents 24/7.

Besides, It pushes the imagination of Lawrence that helps him become the illustrator (I believe) that makes him famous.

Ouch. Yeah, you didn’t want to ask for a favor, but you sure hoped for it. I totally understand that a single mother needs love too and time away from your parents is good, but she is practically throwing him around to chase after Phil. The smoking thing was too much, and she is providing an example to him about what desperate people do to the ones they should love.

I know a few single women who put the needs of their kids before their social life. Connie is fortunate to have a pretty “normal” kid…one without any social/behavior/academic problems to speak of. He actually pretty mature..

The dance. You (think you) know that they will offer, but you have to get them to make the offer without appearing to expect it. I’ve been on both sides of that a few times.

The kids will have fun. We just have to hope that Lawrence doesn’t feel abandoned, and honestly, odds are he will be too excited to realise it.

I dunno, I think Elly made this too easy. I would’ve made her actually ask me to watch Lawrence while she was away.

pearlandpeach: Lawrence didn’t become an illustrator, he’s a landscape designer and owns a landscaping company with his “partner”.

‘Pride goeth before a fall’ and Connie is going to have a big fall when she gets to Montreal and sees Phil with other women and Elly is going to have to pick up the pieces.

That’s why I’m not married: I’m not desperate enough to give chase.

What would Connie have done if Elly hadn’t volunteered to watch Lawrence? Would she have come out and asked anyhow even though she claimed she “didn’t want to impose” (after all, Lawrence’s bag was already there, packed and waiting – that’s how sure she was that Elly would volunteer) or would she have done the right thing and that was to check her silly, school-girl hormones at the door and done the responsible thing for her son … which is to STOP chasing after a man that clearly only wants to be “just friends” with her, quit dumping her kid off on anyone that will take him while she pretends she’s young and single again, with no inconvenient baggage from her past dragging her down, and properly take care of her son like she should be doing??? After all, she chose to bring a child into the world with a man she wasn’t married to, expecting him to “step up” with a wedding ring because of that child (which he did NOT do). That wasn’t Lawrence’s fault — it’s hers. No, I don’t think she should be alone the rest of her life because Lawrence does need a good father figure in his life. But I just don’t think her kid should be dumped off onto other people all the time while she pursues every man she thinks is “Mr. Right” instead of being what they turn out to be … which is “Mr. Right Now”.

After Connie said, ” Great! Here’s his suitcase.”, she would go, zoooooom! chase after Phil for one thing. sighhhhhh!

Now she’s an irresponsible, stupid tramp!

One of the traits she shares with Elly is her complete self absorption.

I fail to see Elly’s “complete self-absorption” as she just offered to take care of somebody else’s kid, and she is worried about her friend who is about to make a total fool of herself.
