Hehe, all kids that age are Drama Royalty. Some just never grow out of it!
My sister and I take turns being the favorite aunts when we watch our brother’s daughter cause we’re strict about different things. My sister makes her finish her plate before she can have something else (so there’s none of this, I’m not hungry when she sees she doesn’t like what’s for dinner and then two hours later, can I have a pb&j?!) but I’m the fun auntie, I let her have cookies before meals. She just doesn’t know they’re laced with zucchini and other good things she won’t eat at dinner. ;) I’m strict about bedtime (because I want MY bedtime!), Auntie Jillian lets her stay up. ;) Grandpa is a total pushover. lol She loves when Grandpa babysits.
When I was a babysitter, there was one family who let their kids do whatever they wanted to. I was more of the disciplinarian (and lived with them one summer as a nanny), and the kids loved me. I think kids need some discipline and order in their lives. Having said that, I’m sure Michael gets enough. LOL
Parenting Law #1:
Let them win the small issues so that it’s easier for you to win the big issues.
Corollary: Avoid entering negotiations on ANY issue if at all possible!
You can’t reason with 6-7 year olds. Mine has been begging for a cheap toy for 2 days now. She’s very persistent. You can’t explain that she has lots and lots of toys or that it’s too cheap a toy and will break right away. Nope. She wants it and wants it now!
Lol dkmfwtx, 100 different times and about 100 different subjects! PLEASE mom, don’t make me eat those brussel sprouts!! But I don’t wanna go outside and play! hehe
Elly is only happy when when everyone else isn’t.
We had 3 great babysitters, once they passed inspection of the kids. They liked us, and liked being our babysitters. One had to move away after a few years, the second got married after a few years and gave the job to her sister, who stayed until she got married after a few years. By then we were old enough to stay alone. They always let us watch all of Saturday Night Live. My parents never had a problem with us sleeping late on Sunday. They didn’t delight in our misery. They didn’t keep babysitters that we didn’t like either. I think that made it easier on everyone. We all looked forward to Saturday nights.
Oh my, Michael is just subjected to all those mean women in his life – and discipline on top of it. How will he survive!?! And his mean (bad) mom, Elly won’t even engage in his tantrum over who will be his babysitter.
I had a family that I babysat for that was a kick, once I found out almost every bedroom had a door or unscreened window to the back yard.
I would put the kids to bed & wait until it got quiet.
Then I would walk out the gradge door & watch them until one of them noticed me. After that, they stayed in bed ecause they didn’t want me to let the parents know.
But like all good parents, I didn’t have to say a word, they knew.
Besides, the kids would tell on themselves before I left. LOL
When I babysat I always let the kids stay up 10 minutes longer. Provided they had their jammies on and their teeth cleaned. I was the cool babysitter. Plus my bedtime stories had different voices

You are assuming that conversation hasn’t taken place 100 times already.
