I think that’s a good time to sit and have a talk about patience, rather than just putting him to bed for having a hissy fit. It doesn’t make him feel any better and it’s just embarrassing and humiliating. How many times have we adults punched a wall or two or kicked some furniture with few repercussions.

She should have called him Michael to let him know that he is in deeeeeeeeep pooh! That always got my attention when I was his age! I also like her honesty when she told him she did not feel like kissing him at all. While parents always love their children, there is nothing carved in stone which demands that we always like them or approve of their behavior. But the last panel is very true.

Maybe this is when he THINKS he needs a kiss most, but what he needs most is a good spanking. And don’t comment on this unless you have been through this with your kids.

John Pike, Elly was patience IMHO. He has had 2 bouts of screaming already, and the 3rd time he also became destructive in a way that could have hurt Lizzie (remember, she’s usually near her big brother).

If Elly is such a bad mother, how is it that her children turned out so well? And I love that some of you also use the term “hissy fit!”

I will not be reading these comments anymore. Elly is — at different times — a Mom… a good Mom… and a great Mom, while the kids are kids… good kids… and great kids (I include Farley in that). Catch the drift? Hmm?There are NOW flesh-and-blood children being sold into the sex trade and/or starving and YOU think fussing about this is the best use of your time? Really?Me I’ll read the strip because it cheers me — and willl do what I can about the really ugly stuff — and ignore YOU.

In my local paper (Sunday Star-Ledger, Newark, NJ) the panel where Ellie is dragging Mike was “purpled out.” All that was visible was Mike’s word balloon. I guess that Ellie’s physical act was “censored”??

It’s a good thing Michael grew up to be a writer. I’m not entirely sure I would want to be standing in any building he designed as an architect or built as a general contractor . . . it could be very dangerous place to be indeed! ;-)

i agree with Blackwolff9. Sit down and have a talk and let the boy cool off a bit or even get him interested in something else. How many times have I been frustrated and felt like punching something when something didn’t go quite right. Adding to my guilt would not be productive or helpful. Thank God, He understands and brings peace when I call upon Him.

It makes me wonder—did Elly EVER actually tell her kids “I love you”?
