So true! I grew up in a suburb of Washington DC, and our field trips were always to really cool places. Unfortunately, that was all lost on little kids who really just cared they were getting out of school.
Last year the local public school children had annual zoo trip. Talk about nightmare, any adult was not watching a 2nd grade boy got up close and personal to a lepard and the lepard saw lunch and with paw grabbed the boy, that is when adults sprung into action and zoo officials and got the boy free. The lepard is okay and the boy learned a lesson. Zoo took more precautions and had precautions with fensing in existants already. Made better fensing.
I remember going to Brauns bakery to see Towntalk bread being made. Then there was the Heinz factory where we all got a pickle pin, a can of beans and a jar of mustard. The best field trip of all was with my Sr.class from the Christian school. We travelled down to Florida and went to DisneyWorld, St. Augustine, Daytona beach, and we went through Tennessee. Great memories.
School field trips. Now that is a good memory. The kids in our school system here don’t get as many as I had. No money in the school budget for them unless they squeeze the tax payers a little more.

Unfortunately, field trips are being reduced to allow more instructional time to raise test scores—and because of transportation budgets.

Funny, I remember having field trips and being on the bus leaving the school, but I couldn’t tell you where we went to save my life.

We sang that song too, until the driver got fed up, threatened to empty the bus and go on to the field trips without us.
