True, Elizabeth, but your face needs a wash.

I’m waiting for all of the “Too much sugar” or “Call CPS” “Don’t giver her that heavy bowl” comments to start.

When I worked in the kitchen of the kibbutz in Israel for 6 months, I was starving. I hated the food and when I don’t like food I don’t eat it. Lunch was too heavy for me in the heat of the day and when I was hungry at suppertime, the food was too light. For a time I worked in the kitchen. One day the lady who baked chocolate cake for the kibbutz kids threw the bowl that she had mixed the chocolate icing into the sink full of soapy water without asking me, working nearby, if I wanted to scrape the icing. I was so frustrated! When I returned to the states I looked like a skeleton – I wish I could look that way now.

Good Lord piloti, I’m so glad you said that! I often wonder if they understand the difference, LOL!

My favorite part when my mom was making cookies or cake was when she gave me the bowl with a spoon to finish up the batter. Oh heck it’s still my favorite part even at 30. :)

As a chef running a kitchen, the most dangerous words were: the bowl is ready for cleaning! I put the bowl down and moved….fast! :-)

Even when we were kids, eating raw dough was “bad for you — you’ll get worms”. Hardly slowed us down.

When I was a kid, I loved to lick the uncooked cake batter, so one day my friend and I made a cake, but before baking it, we ate our fill of the batter. We ended up being really sick to our stomachs. Perhaps it was the raw eggs.

I too was allowed to lick the bowl “clean”. My mother would then say " I just have to rinse it" making me feel proud.

I used to love licking the beaters – very fond memories. There was a time that I went over to my sister’s and after dinner she asked me if I wanted to have some of the drippings in the pan. I said no but then changed my mind. I took a big scoop of it with my fingers and downed it. What I didn’t know was that she had put a big dose of Palmolive detergent in the pan. I gagged for hours.

We called them the “beaters”. Ahh, such memories.

I have the same picture of myself – with chocolate frosting – and a bowl sitting on a picnic table in my backyard when I was 4 years old. This is a classic. Too bad I never had a camera that was ready to use when my boys did this too.

As one of my birhday cards from my grown dtr reads, " A good mom lets her child lick the beaters, A GREAT mom turns the machine off first! Happy Birthday to a GREAT mom!"

Lynn used to deal with real issues. I am finding this strip is more and more like Family Circus.

Lizzy, hon, if you’ve still got some on your face and you haven’t licked it off, you’re not doing it right!

licking the beaters was my brother and I loved. After I had my child, I looked forward to that same thing. I remember making a cake for his birthday when he was about 9. I asked him if he wanted to lick the spatula, he gave me this look of disgust and said ’ Grandma says that can make me sick’. Thanks mom in law. lol
