Oops! I guess she got caught up in the excitement of a paycheck! And don’t forget about those pesky taxes that they take out too.@Jo P – I agree. I’ve had to take my kids to 3 dentists because 2 of them kept trying to push things on them that were totally unnecessary. The last one infuriated me because they took unnecessary and excessive x-rays without letting me know, and I only found out after we left them. The excess radiation is harmful and there was no reason for it! (we all have NO problems with our teeth that need to be investigated)
now in America, you need a 2nd mortgage to pay for living day to day. Most people can’t afford dentists or doctors. Medicine is not for human needs but for businessmen’s profit.remember people we are in America, not Canada where people have worth in and of themselves.
in America Profits come before people. always always.haven’t you been propagandized enought to know that?
Add up the cost of insurance, office space, office payroll, computers, dental equipment, lab expenses, utilities, taxes, licenses, school debt… Then look at what that cleaning cost you, with the negotiated (down) group rate. Do you really think Dentistry is all that profitable?
rule #1 don’t spend anything until you have your paycheck in your hands or direct deposited. Then & only then do you know exactly what you have to spend.
no sorry folks (i’m canadian) rhsasl is right, there is no free dental care up here (or eye care), average cleaning runs 90-100 bucks every six months and the eye doctor is 80 bucks up front for a check up. Only way it’s free is if your work has it in the benefits plan.
rhsasl: Neither is medical care, but it is a whole lot cheaper than in the US, and I never had a US GP who had been published in Lancet, but did in Canada.
Yes, Jon’s a dentist – but a lot of insurances don’t cover dental care, and as someone who needs to see a dentist (but can’t afford it), I can attest that most of us put off the dentist as long as possible. So being a dentist isn’t a license to make money.
Notice that she didn’t buy anything for herself, just her husband & kids. & notice the strip tried to make it seem like Elly working outside the home was optional or even some kind of hardship for John, yet they clearly need the money. Fixing the car is not a luxury.

Budgetting actually is very easy, life has taught me. Write down your income. Add ten percent. That should equal your expenditure.

In Canada the OHIP (or whatever your province is) does not cover dental.
As for Elly’s paycheck, it should be for extras just like she bought. John’s money ought to be covering car repairs.
