John’s fault! You are like the group who always says that it is the man’s fault. From accepting the kids to pressuring John, it has been Elly. I guess the same group would have called him a heel if he hadn’t helped.
Jeeze! It’s a COMIC STRIP!It’s a JOKE! Some of you act like this is reality, criticizing and analyzing their marriage, their personalities, etc. Too much reality TV, maybe?Whatever you do, don’t ever watch “The Honeymooners” – it would make your heads explode!
If a finger of blame has to be pointed, it should be at Anne, who should be well aware that her son refuses to use any potty other than his own and who should have made sure to give that potty to Elly. Blaming Elly for minding a neighbor’s kids on a minute’s notice is like blaming a neighbor who calls the cops when she hears a burglar alarm go off. We’re SUPPOSED to look out for each other….
While I realize this is comics, breaking into a house just to get a potty is nutty. If I were Elly, I would tell Ricahard his mom left his potty at home and his house is all locked up. He could either use their potty or wet his own pants. This would a lesson learned for Richard and Anne might thank Elly for breaking Richard’s insistence on using his own potty at home. Knowing Elly, she pushed for the break-in only because she couldn’t stand hearing Ricahard wail. Elly, don’t pressure your husband into doing things he doesn’t want to do – do it yourself! And grow a spine and tell Anne no next time.
Yes the strip is set in Canada. The town they are in is outside of Toronto, her parents live in British Colombia and his sister lives on a farm in Manitoba.
Annie should have thought ahead and given them the potty. Or left her door unlocked. Guess she’ll be home in “an hour or so” and be able to help them explain. Or not.

Lynn Johnston has some great story arcs…and this is not one of them. It is dragging out the joke of Richard being a brat, as well as rehashing the story arc where Lawrence was staying with the Pattersons and had some irrational fear of anyone else’s bathroom. Although Lawrence did not break into his own house, at least he used his key!

“Miami Vice”? This is in Canada! It should be something like “Charlottetown…” (Prince Edward Island) “…Vice”!

Why do they look all upset in Panel 3? Do they really think Anne’s going to charge them?
