Lynn’s Notes:

Because my brother was so closely tied to the character, Uncle Phil, this comic strip relationship had to be carefully choreographed. I had to be careful not to write about anything that was true to life. When I introduced Georgia (a name I used as a nod to a friend from art school) Alan was single. Within a few weeks of Georgia’s appearance in FBorFW, he met Joan, who looked a lot like the “girlfriend” character I had drawn.

Is Georgia extending the “Left Hand of Darkness”?

nosirrom: I have noticed quite a few comics are “flopped” from their newspaper versions, but the balloons are not (as that would make them illegible for most readers). This is particularly bad with those like Bizarro which are also changed from horizontal to vertical orientation.

phil should have found Georgia and introduced Connie right at the beginning and not start reminiscing !!

Sure wish the woman-haters would quit reading this strip. Getting old.

Don’t laugh or scoff, but can someone explain the social dynamics of a left-hand handshake? I always thought you lead in with the hand you write with, so if a person is left handed is that a problem!

Frankly, I think Georgia handled it beautifully…

Hold left hands, fight with the (usually) dominant hand. Decreases the possibility of collateral damage to bystanders.

Oh PLEASE! You and Nabuguduriuzhur, and some other men since the 2 of you posted I am a 60 year old female,mother of 2, mother to many pets over the years. I have read this strip since I can’t remember when. Never thought of this as Lynn making men look bad. I have been following because of the kid and pet lines more than anything. I remember WHEN FARLEY DIED! Many things with her kids are similar to mine when they were that young. Some of the things with John yeah, THAT’S CALLED MARRIAGE! Seems we have some MALE EGO THINGS GOING ON HERE!

AND FOR THE RECORD, I LOVED GEORGIAS ZING!

She makes herself look like a “buffoon” plenty too — and I don’t think she exactly is kind to Connie or her other friend — is it Annie? Somebody has to be made fun of, or it wouldn’t be a comic. Get over it or go read a macho comic — there are plenty of them.

lavubua mcginty: It has little or nothing to do with this specific situation (I still think they flopped the picture before adding the balloons), but Baden Powell claimed it required abandoning the shield and so demonstrated bravery. Also note that the Zulu shield had a spike at the bottom so it could be planted in the ground vertically and thus available to duck behind in case.
