I don’t see why you both are bashing Elly. She is expressing the pain she will feel upon loosing her close friend.

Exactly. Who does she think she is getting upset that her best friend is moving far enough away that the friendship is basically over? I mean really, what a completely self absorbed b’tch.

Hey. It’s consistent. She’s chosen to be the victim in every aspect of her life, the martyr role. The only problem is, she sees herself as the perpetual victim, so it’s always about what’s happening to her. This case isn’t different for her not being able to do anything about it. Shed never does anything about anything. It takes two to create a life of escalating abuse. One to have bad impulses and another to let them make them worse without consequence.

But she will indeed miss Connie. Connie was someone she could look to to provide an example of a more passive doormat than even Elly.

Distance doesn’t break a real friendship. I’m glad my best friend didn’t react like Elly when I moved from Germany to Argentina. I’ve just been visiting here in Berlin and we’re still best friends. Then again, the world’s become a lot smaller since e-mail and Skype…

Such cynicism, if you don’t like Elly’s POV why do you read this strip?

You know, maybe the reason all these commenters do so much Elly-bashing is because she is very much like them and they don’t like the comparison.

That’s right Elly, it’s all about you! Now lay that guilt trip on Connie and make her feel way worse than she already does.

Lynn’s Notes (from fbofw.com/strip_fix):This sentiment reflects the feeling I had when my women friends moved away from Lynn Lake. In this small town, good friends kept me sane. When my friend Nancy Lawn left for Edmonton, I told her I was happy for her, and I really was! I congratulated her husband on his promotion and transfer, and I earnestly wished them well. As they drove away, I waved and smiled until their car disappeared, and then I cried. I cried for all the good times we could have had. I cried for me.

If you hate a character in a cartoon, don’t read it

Headline: Haters who read cartoons they hate and snark at the characters think the world revolves around them and they can ruin everyone else’s day.

The trolls seem to be divided into camps, namely “bash Elly”, “John puts his foot in his mouth”, “Michael is a pig” or “Elizabeth the brat”. It is almost to be expected. However, it is somewhat surprising to see that all the Connie-haters have taken a vacation, she seems to be the favorite victim the trolls who call her various like “intolerant”.

Hey guys, I don’t think El meant it in a totally selfish way. It is the pain of losing someone close that is doing the talking. Lighten up.

I feel sorry for the friends o anyone who hasn’t thought that, AND Elly doesn’t even say the part about her, though I wouldn’t be surprised if Connie didn’t give adequate thought to the other issues Elly brought up.

Or maybe, the social isolation of being a stay-at-home parent who never got out except for church caused their depression and it had nothing to do with their sexuality. Depression is a pretty common response to social isolation. I have experienced it myself during a prolonged job hunt, and my husband experienced it during a multi-year work-from-home situation. Homemakers are often heavily involved in volunteering in part to meet their social needs.

More importantly, Deanna became Michael’s wife and mother of his two children – not just a childhood crush.

Come on, peeps. Of course we never want our friends to move away. We are selfish in that way that we rather keep our friends in our daily lives. But we know it is not always possible and that moving is part of life and we accept it. Elly is definitely playing the guilt cards on her friend which is underhanded. She needs to let it go – Connie is struggling with the break up with Ted, knowing that he is dating another woman. What is wrong with wanting to move away, especially if there is a better job elsewhere?

It Really is difficult to lose one’s very best female friend! However, this is not the time to think of yourself, Elly…well, at least not out loud. It looks like Connie is very sad about the whole thing. I guess it is time to start researching your list of friends to see if there is possibly anyone who can even Begin to fill the “connection shoes” you had with Connie. Too bad this comic strip took place many years ago…Facebook would have been a Great way to continue to share your lives… ;)

I for one, enjoy everyone’s comments. Feel free to express yourself here……even those who feel they just have to point out that they don’t agree with what you just wrote.
