I belonged to my church’s choir when I was pregnant with my second daughter. There was a 13-year-old girl who usually sat with me (we sang the same part). She had never met anyone who was pregnant before and was fascinated. Every time my baby kicked I would give her a nudge so she could feel it. My “baby” is turning 10 in 2 weeks and considers that “girl” (now a young college graduate) like another big sister and we’re all still close.

well Elly knows Anne really well so her feeling the baby I can understand, I do have issues with strangers doing that

I am surprised by that. Growing up, most pregnant women would ask me “Would you like to feel the baby kick?”, but if they did not, that was their business. I was told by my family that it is extremely rude to invite yourself to feel a woman’s belly, or have some concept that by becoming pregnant a woman has waived her personal space and everyone is entitled to feel her baby whenever they damn well please.

Guess I’m just weird but I never had a problem with people wanting to feel the baby kick. Even if a stranger came up it wouldn’t bother me unless it was a guy. Don’t want strange guys touching me. :P

I never minded having someone feel my babies kick, as long as they asked first. It’s the stranger reaching out to me without warning that was unnerving.

I like personal anecdotes, especially when, like here, they are related to the topic of conversation.

Nobody but my husband (and maybe other kids?) ever tried to touch me during any of my 3 pregnancies, so I don’t know how it feels, but babies are notorious for this sort of thing, similar to how they refuse to smile when you’re pointing a camera at them, after they’re born.
