My mother in law made the best cookies ever. I could never make them as well, because I can’t seem to stick to a recipe. First of all, I hate to measure. It means extra time and extra utensils. I like instructions which say “a dash of this or a knob of that.” When it comes to dinner, I’m a fairly good cook, but when it comes to the finer things like cookies and cakes, I defer to those who follow directions. This reminds me: my grandmother, when asked how she measured molasses would say: “two golollups and a drip”. I loved that expression!
I’ve been watching the Food Channel a lot lately since I’m having digestive problems and am always looking for new ideas. The experts there continuously say that you can cook ‘savory’ food with a ‘dash’ of this and a ‘bit’ of that, but with baking, exact measurements are needed.
OK, she got off easy on the off the wall remark.I remember the good old days when someone could make an off the wall remark, and everyone would have a muffled laugh, and life would go on.Fast foreward to 2015:Now, if someone dares make an off the wall remark, some AH with a video or voice recorder – well to make a long story short, that one clip will define him for the rest of his life!!
