Reminds me of one who signed up for a week-long backpacking trip. Got proper boots, but first put them on at the trailhead.
Give John credit where credit is due. He is preparing as best possible for the rigors of canoeing. Another line could have been to tell Elizabeth: “We exercise so that people will call us the Pattersons, not the Fattersons!”
