It’s also one of the more crazy things you god-botherers do. If you’re praying FOR something you’re asking your god to change his divine plan…an awful lot of hubris is required for that. If it’s just general thanks, your god knows exactly how sincerely thankful you are. And if it’s praise, one wonders how much kiss-ass your god can stand.
Prayer is part of having a relationship with God. More than anything, I am changed, for the better. Don’t want Him to change His divine plan. Zme, do you have kids? Then you know exactly how sincerely thankful they are without telling you? Isn’t the relationship better when they thank you & you all love on each other? God is love.
oh well, religion. be nice to the believers, they will eventually come after non believers. just a matter of time. either accept their “religion” or else.
For me, prayer is a personal thing that has nothing to do with shady evangelists, dubious Pastors, or fanatics who scare or turn people off by preaching fire and brimstone and no mercy or claim to be God. I leave those folks to God.
I am an advocate of prayer because I have had many answered in my lifetime. My relationship with God has saved me from a myriad of mistakes and bad choices.
I know that there are a ga-zillion people, claiming His name, who do things that cast an awful shade on God, but please don’t penalize God for allowing people their freedom of choice to serve or not to serve, to pray or not to pray. Just sayin.
By the way, I am not Catholic, but the Pope is coming to Philly next month….your thoughts?
Jeez. Here I just thought it was a cute cartoon.-To me, the two most personal things in life are who you love and your relationship to God (that includes atheism).-Like the song says, “Ain’t nobody’s business but my own.”
even when it never does.-—————————————————-That’s an awfully broad brush you’re painting everyone with, NG.Maybe you don’t think it works, and maybe for you it doesn’t, but that doesn’t negate all the people who feel it does.Remember:“There are more things in heaven and earth… than are dreamt of in your philosophy.” by William Shakespeare, in Hamlet.Or:“Don’t get cocky, kid.” by George Lucas, in Star Wars.
What was the one where the Pattersons are in church and Michael hears a strong sermon. Afterwards, he asks his mother if church is open every Sunday. Elly replies in the affirmative. When Michael’s follow-up question is “How come we only go twice a year?”, both John and Elly have frozen faces, as if Michael just asked a very adult question.
I used to know a couple Cops in the “Drink a Beer” with them sense. One of my favorite “War Stories” from those days was when one of them reminisced about the day they were assigned to direct Traffic outside a Tent Revival. Once people got inside and the speechifying began, the guy started hearing his partner mumbling something. He thought at first that it was a complaint about being stuck outside the tent on a 90 Degree afternoon. But, as time went on, the “mumbling” got a bit louder and he realized his partner was Reciting the “Inspirational” stories right along with the preacher. That was the day he discovered that, in his misspent youth, his partner attended a Theological College where he had Memorized the exact same “Sermon” that was being preached that day in the tent..His partner chimed in that that sermon was one of only 3 Dozen their class was required to memorize..
TarredandfeatheredSam Houston would whittle little crosses during church services, which he would give to children afterwards. His wife chastised him for not paying attention. He then repeated the entire sermon verbatim..When he was baptized, rather late in life, he asked the preacher, “Are all my sins washed away?” Told they were, he replied, “God help the fish.”

The prayer line to God is ALWAYS free, Elizabeth. It doesn’t matter where you pray.

Prayer – how to look busy and not do anything.

SO much for “tolerance” of “diversity.” Typical.

There is an awful lot of documented proof that prayer DOES work. Try looking it up.

If you are not a believer, just look prayer as a little bit of meditation time

Don’t worry, Elizabeth. I like to believe God has plenty of angel operators standing by.
