Never any problems like this? Until a certain age. They say the older you get, the harder it is to make new close friends.

It really does start YOUNG. My daughter is only 5, started school last year, and has been mystified and extremely hurt at least weekly by the “I’m your friend/I’m not your friend anymore” crud that goes on in her class. She just recently started making a friendship with a boy classmate (she is SO “girlie-girl” it mystifies me, but has an older brother so that helps). I’m hoping at least the little boy isn’t going to experiment with the “friendship powerplay”. I can’t really help her understand anything, as in this I was just like her, and never understood the girl social games myself.

There’s a big difference between a best friend and an only friend.
