I was fortunate. Neither of my girls ever wanted a “binky”. My older one tried one once, after seeing another baby using one, but didn’t like it. My younger one had her thumb, which she broke herself off of before she turned 2.
No binky, no binky, no binky. I did not want to have to hunt for it at 3am or try to find water to wash it off if it fell on the ground while in the park or mall. Too much trouble. If you don’t introduce a binky, they’ll b fine.
I see kids with them in their mouths in public, and they are above 2 years old. Good grief! If the child can pick it up and put it in his or her own mouth, then they are too old for it. It’s a soother for infants, not toddlers.
With the “binky” they will eventually get tired of it and leave it… with their thumb it is always there. It cost be a bundle to get my daughter’s teeth straightened after using her thumb for years.
When my son was a baby I insisted that he have a “binky”. My MIL disagreed. I told her that I had cousins that were STILL sucking their thumbs going to sleep (one was over 6!)I told my MIL—-I can lose the binky, if he uses his thumb…it’s ALWAYS there.

Down here, kids don’t need pacifiers. They get the real deal !
No one, except the gringos, are shocked.

Sometimes it better to demonstrate rather than explain.

My three kids never had pacifiers. I never saw the need for the damn things. Kids really don’t need them.

It’s not a pacifier, it’s a silencer.

I can think of a few adults that can use it.
