I know this comic strip was originally published in 1988, but it still bugs me that Lynn Johnston drew Carol Enjo as slanty-eyed and the colourist gave her a yellow skin colour.
I didn’t used to read Comments here on GoComics.com, but lately I’ve found many of them to be as entertaining as the strips themselves, especially from the self-righteous, P.C., self-styled psychoanalysts (you know who you are … or more likely you don’t.) Anyway, please keep it up. As I said, I find them equally entertaining! :-)
1.) The camp director did not feel the problem was so severe as to inform Michael’s parents about this. He had punished Michael by making him work in the kitchen and that was it.
2.) Brain tattled on Michael? Some friend he is. Also, that was rather catty of Brian’s mother not to read the letter in its entirety before feeling the need to dictate to Elly.
3.) Brian was also a participant, but nowhere in the letter does he tell his mother that fact. In fact, he has sinned more than Michael by lying (withholding from his parents the fact he was involved). Like it says in the Bible “Thou shalt not bear false witness”.
If Elly and John are smart, when they confront Michael about this, they won’t reveal their source, just tell him, “Because we’re your parents, and by definition, we know everything!”
Mike will be at camp several more days. Ellie will have plenty of time to cool down before he gets home. And John will tell her not to make a big deal out of something he’s already been punished for.
This is the first time that I recall seeing Mrs. Enjo in this strip. I remember her two kids, especially Dawn, but I don’t remember ever seeing her before. And I think she’s gorgeous!
Ooohhhhh, the look on Elly’s face! Michael is so dead meat when he gets home. No matter what punishment he got at camp, what he gets from Elly at home will be far worse! And John if he has any brains at all will stay out of it. If he says “It’s a boy thing” or “boys will be boys” or in any way tries to justify this I will have to travel through the strip and wring his neck!!
When I was a boy went to a one room school had out house for boy and one for girls the outhouse had lid you open to clean them well one of the older boy open it up all us boy come over to see what was going on from that time lid was locked

As in ‘Harry Potter’ he’ll probably get a ‘screamer’…either in letter form or over the phone.

A couple of questions to get the full story:

This reminds me of a couple of books compiled by Bill Adler from the 1960s:
“Letters From Camp,” and “More Letters From Camp”.

Well, Liz just lost her ace in “tattle poker”, but at least she was not the one that ratted him out!
As for PC, or in this case reverse PC, rent the DVD Flower Drum Song (an R & H Classic)

What I find disturbing is the camp counselors know about that hole and did nothing to fix the problem.
