I actually thought the blond woman was supposed to be trying to grab the brolly from the black woman for a moment, and that the line was supposed to be sarcastic!My world-weary, cynical twenty-first century brain, no doubt.
Now that this lady has stepped up and given away her umbrella, in tomorrow’s comic strip will John follow her example and give the woman something to survive the cold? John has a great opportunity here to teach Elizabeth.
Don’t look down on someone,unless you’re extending a hand,to help them up.Make your heart swell,by helping folks in need.You never know when your feet can be pulled from underneath you ;)
In Ecuador, it’s very common to have people vending small products ( everything from gum & candies to medicines ) or busking ( singing or playing a musical instrument ). At Christmas time, a short cross-city bus ride, you might encounter more than one of these entrepreneurs.
The other day, on one such bus ride there was a young man selling chewing gum. I didn’t purchase. When he’d finished, he sat down in front of me, near the rear door. An old man got on the bus and with the aid of a portable mic and amplifier began serenading the travelers. When he’d finished, he began. politely to solicit donations from the passengers. What stunned me and really tugged at my heart was that the young fellow who’d been selling the gum gave the old man some of his hard earned change. I was so taken by this act of selflessness that I gave the old singer a dollar and the young chewing gum vendor $2 to acknowledge his own generosity.
