Everyone has that well- meaning relative who wants to help but is no help at all. They always show up at births, deaths and other times where this kind of help is the last thing you need.
My opinion about a situation like this? I say that if someone has the absolute NERVE to invite themselves to go stay in someone’s house for a spur-of-the-moment “visit” like that without even consulting them as to whether it would be a good time or not — particularly if they just recently had a baby and everyone’s still trying to get settled into a brand new routine — then the inconsiderate lout (even if they are “family”) can sleep wherever the homeowner wants to put them: the floor, the couch ….. or a pull-out sofa-bed in the basement if that’s all they’ve got. And if that person doesn’t like it? Well, then, they’re more than welcome to go stay at the nearest motel for the length of their stay or — better still — they can just head right on back to the airport and hop on the next plane home again.

While the claim is that Fiona is a relative of John’s, you can see she has characteristics that are unlike what the Pattersons are accustomed to:
1. She gives them compliments about their house and thanks them for their hospitality.
2. There is food so bad that she can’t eat it.
3. She wears clothes that are more exciting than anything in John or Elly’s wardrobe.
4. She has teeth.

So, yesterday when Elly said “Getting the downstairs ready…”, does that mean the basement in Canadian? In America we call the basement “The Basement.”

Uh-oh. Now Elly has to put her in the TV room where the sleeper sofa is? Or move Liz to the sofa or basement so she could put Fiona in Liz’s room?

Notice Elly is already stepping down with a suitcase. Fiona hasn’t noticed.

Aunt Fiona is why we call them out-laws instead of in-laws.

Never look a gift horse in the mouth, Fiona. You may end up doing all the diaper changing ..

Somehow I suspect that this cousin would be far more at home in The Dinette Set strip……
