More confirmation that Michael is not spending his evenings with Martha any more, which is a trend that started when he celebrated New Years’ Eve without Martha. The last time we saw Martha was during the double-date in December. When a boy wants to spend more time with his guy friends instead of with his girlfriend, something has gone wrong.

When my siblings & I were young and incorrigible, my mum would put up with just so much before issuing this threat: “If you don’t behave, I’ll give you to the first Indian that comes along!” The three of us thought that was absolute twaddle. One day there came a knock on the door & we rushed to open it, our mum close behind. Standing there was a tall man, his face & hands leathery from the sun; he asked our mum if she had any odd jobs he could do. But we were scared into beating a hasty retreat: he wore a Navajo serape & moccasins!

“Thank you for coming out tonight to the auction. Let me remind you that we all winning bids must be paid upfront, and we are only accepting cash. First up on the block: Michael, being sold to a new family. He has previously been sold to a farm and is well versed in agricultural work as well as standard slave chores such as room cleaning, cleaning toilets, and washing dishes. Again, this is a fine specimen. No scars, no visible injuries, and examined personally by Dr. Ted McCaulay. Opening bid for Michael will be $1,000. Do I hear $2,000. OK then, next up on the auction block: Gordon.”

Frankly, grounding is hard on the parents who have to be around the whiny but head for a couple of weeks too. I suppose that’s where the shorter “time out” came from.

I think that Brian is a girl, every time I see him show up, until they mention his name.

If the poundings and other abuses are sufficient you can get emancipated.

I’m surprised nobody is snarking about how Brian’s parents have clearly given him an earlier curfew than Elly did with Mike, since he’s leaving now, and are therefore superior parents.

Michael looks like he is in need of a visit to the barbershop in the first panel.
