While Michael seems to be making another joke where he calls his sister ugly, I think he is right and he has given good advice to his sister. A true friend does like you even if you are ugly. No one in this comic strip knows this better than Michael Patterson. One of his best friends is Gordon “Hormone Attack” Mayes, the kid who would throw himself on the ground and thrust his groin out at girls he thought were attractive. It’s hard to imagine anyone (especially girls) wanting to be around Gordon after that and yet Michael has stuck by him through it all, as a true friend should.
In jr. high I had 3 lousy friends who basically ignored me when other people were around but they all hated each other and were super possessive of me when either of the other two were around or if they found out I hung out with one of them. I eventually dropped all 3.
You don’t ever call a girl a dog, fat or ugly…NOT EVER…. Especially a girl at Elizabeth’s age. I don’t care if she looks like a dump truck, you never, ever, ever say that to a female.
haha, okay Lynn definitely knows how siblings act towards each other.
Candace becomes such a major part of the strip- it’s kind of funny how Dawn was just “the normal friend” without a lot of attributes of her own, while Candace soon runs away with things. By the time I really paid a lot of attention to the comic, Dawn was still there, but had long since lost her “voice” and was just a background nothing. Lynn had a lot more to unwrap with Candace and her constant need for attention and hidden depths.
Spoiler alert.… Spoiler alert…… Spoiler alert…… Spoiler alert…… Spoiler alert… Candace’s life isn’t what it seems. Her mother is a pretty crappy person who allows her boyfriend to live in the house and mooch off her… This has been going on for three or four years already, at least. This guy is mentally and physically abusive towards Candace… he’s a real creep, a pervert and a pedophile who is beginning to have some very highly inappropriate designs on Candance..
This cartoon shows how “motion” can be suggested by not having the wheels of a vehicle touch the ground. If you were to take a piece of tracing paper, trace the outline of the car and move the image down so that the wheels touch the curve of the road, you would instantly see the car standing still. A shadow underneath adds to the illusion. This is one little trick of the trade!
Every person is an individual, totally different from everyone else. I like everyone but each of us has a trait others may not like. When you look at it, the pros will always outweigh the cons. The things I like about them totally outnumber the things that I don’t. Just accept your friends for who they are, nothing else matters.
Funny but as I said about my recently deceased wife and I. We loved each other warts and all, we truly accepted each other with all of the faults we had and were married for 34 years when she died and were shooting for many many more. I say this because she was also my best friend.
This always happens during the teen years – However – NOW days when a friend (like my best friend) has a friend who I find irritating (but not for the reasons Liz is having with the friend)…the woman I’m talking about is just irritating to a lot of people but my best friend is one of the nicest people around so she tolerates the person….Anyway….I just do whatever I can to avoid that person – or anyone else who irritates me. At 73 I’m too old to deal with those kind of people!

She doesn’t want constructive advice, she wants people to listen to and sympathize with her tale of woe.

Another instance where they are driving a car with no side door mirrors, even though it is a law in Canada to have them.

I don’t ever give out advice unless I’m asked or I ask if they want it.

Was that a back handed compliment or straight up mean? Whatever, it’s bad luck to punch the driver in a moving car. Just wait.

some people aren’t meant to give advice because they don’t think before they speak; while others try to make light of the problem.
