Best not to think about teen romance during work

At my employed grocery store when returning the carts to the lobbies from the parking lot (corrals, parking spaces, sidewalks), there are times I’m not fast enough to push a cart not fully pushed in to be truly fully pushed in that a new shopper grabs it and there are times I am quick enough that I obliviously don’t notice a shopper say they’ll take it.

In today’s modern grocery, Mike’s job would be to spray that cart down after someone turned it in.

During the pandemic, shopping carts had to be wiped down with disinfectant before they could be used again.

    Lynn’s Comments:

One problem with scenes in a grocery store is you have to draw grocery carts. These things are awful to draw! Photos are good, but you have to find a good one—and a photo shows just one position. When I found a tiny toy shopping cart in San Francisco, I was thrilled! I still use it as a 3D model.

There is a surprising amount of shopping cart etiquette that I just haven’t mastered.

That’s the kind of collision you get with a last-in-first-out data structure.

Ah the fragility of young love, the excitement, the anticipation, the lack of courage to get beyond the fantasy and see what is reality.

Michael is the most spaced out kid I have seen; sure hope he never works in an operating room or on an aircraft carrier.

Uh how come the shopping cart doesn’t have a handle bar in the first panel??

Wow. That never happens around here. They are usually found in the parking lot roaming free.

Rows and rows of shopping carts stuck tightly together.

This looks like a job for Superman

My son works at a grocery store, never ask him if a customer does the same. He also multitasks he loves checking. He works self check out. He has 7 years and now has 60 hours of vacation, he has used one day, the week of his birthday he will take that week be in October.

Here’s a tip, Mike: Grab the handle, shove the cart forward, and then yank up and out. Put all your frustration and anger into it. Works like a charm and is very cathartic! (After you make sure the customer’s not trying to put it away!)
