I grew up poor. For a while we had no running water (about 3 months and thankfully in the summer) so we would go to the springhouse and carry the water into the “house”. It had to be heated on the stove for any baths or washing dishes. To go to the bathroom, yes we went behind the bushes and trees in the backyard. Now my idea of “roughing” it is when the hotel does not have 24hr room service. My husband when younger (he is 80 now) was always an avid camper, hiker, rock climber, mountain climber…you name it.

Camping, pretending we’re homeless for the weekend.

My wife and daughters think “roughing it” means waiting 30 minutes for room service, not feeding a jadgschwader of hungry mosquitoes.

We love going camping. It’s great to be out in the woods.
