I just remembered this: years ago I worked for Digital. DEC had their own “notesfiles” (kind of a precursor to forums), and one topic was music. I got to chatting with a guy named Al who was a HUGE Aerosmith fan; he lived in NM and envied me living in New England…“’Smith Country”. We developed a great friendship, and got to talking about other topics. One time I typed something about “…my husband and I…” His next note was short: “YOU’RE A GIRL???” You see, I always signed my name as K.C. I wasn’t purposely being vague.
DEC was great until ‘86-’87. Then, sadly, it started a downturn. Until then it was the best job I ever had. I had a similar experience as K.C. Was having a conference over several nights with an engineer in Australia with TALK, when, on the third night, I realized that it was a woman I was “talking” to. It made no difference to me, just a fact to be noted. She was brilliant and helpful while solving a difficult PDP1170 design problem. I do Miss carrying a scope and “chip chasing” problems. Fun.

Jason is starting to put the pieces together, but he still doesn’t know it’s Little Miss Jacobson.

Yeah, it’s just starting to click… He’s really gonna feel stupid when he realizes that “Neelie” is just “Eileen” spelled backwards.
