I hadn’t thought of this earlier, but this is a different school system than the one I grew up with. With mine, Freshman year ROCKED! That’s because it was the top grade of the Junior High, so Freshmen were royalty.

For a second in last pannel, I thought it was her eyes I saw bulging above a very strange face. Can’t unsee it now!

Freshmen year we were sorted into groups that ranged from college prep to shop prep. Absolute graded test scores, no curve and each student knew his standing in class. Rigorous discipline. Some did not make it and were sent to public school. God bless the Christian Brothers!

Ahh, an assignment before the first class! Love it when the very first words out of a teachers’s mouth on the first day is, “Pass in your homework”, and the students look at each other in panic. Some teachers are sadistic.

I don’t think I was ever given an assigned summer reading list when in school. I read, a lot, so it wouldn’t have been a problem (unless they were lousy books) but it just didn’t happen.

Paige has more intelligence than she lets on. She directs it too much to social hierarchy and mall shopping and boy shopping.
