This actually happened to me when I was a kid. A friend “designed” a model rocket with the tail fins swept too far forward. It cleared the launch rod, immediately did a 90° turn and flew around in circles at head level. I learned to ‘hit the dirt’ 5 yrs before enlisting in the Marines.
The National Association of Rocketry (the body which, among other things, produces safety codes for model rockets) would like to have a word with you boys.

not the boys’ fault if the rocket goes into someone’s house via open door or open window

This isn’t rocket science, Jason.
This strip reminds me of watching American rockets blowing up on the launch pad in the early 1960’s.
I think with every billionaire and his kid sister going off into space, the term rocket science has lost some of its meaning.

Built a very large custom rocket. Went up about 100 feet, turned and headed back towards us at full speed. Talk about running for your life.

I belong to the “lost rockets” club. I watched as one of my Estes rockets parachuted down into the woods when I was a kid. Never found it.
