REX MORGAN: The rapport between Iris and the Morgans and dog is much better than that between rex and Mabel.
APT3G: A new thread; no comment until we see what will develop.
MARY WORTH: I wonder how the homeless man will figure in this plot.
@David. In some states people are encouraged to recycle their plastics, especially their bottles, by offering them a nickle for each bottle they redeem. Many homeless or very poor people supplement their SSI by collecting the bottles thrown in garbage cans by people who can’t bother. Thus they are performing the environment a service as well as reducing the amount of land use that garbafe takes up.
The only problem with this is that these people take a lot of time at the redemption centers (usually machines outside of supermarkets) with their dozens, if not hundreds) of bottles and cans. However, I have often found that these people let me, with just one or two bottles, get ahead of them.
PS The state charges the consumer at the supermarket level a nickle for each bottle or can they purchase, so the consumer is only getting his money back, while the scavenger is reaping an extra income.
@Arye – Thanks for the input about the recycling. I guess that’s what the man has in his basket, now you’ve said so. And, as I’ve already said in ByE, I loved the Eagle Story. Thanks.
PHANTOM: Good question.REX MORGAN: “Iris immediately connects with Sarah and Abbey.” Who is Abbey? Rex’s wife is June, their daughter is Sarah, and the dog is Brittany. Isn’t Abbey over at the Judge Parker strip?MARK TRAIL: A new story begins…with a very nice panel 3.FUNKY W: I didn’t read yesterday’s “global warming” strip until today. There’s a lot of truth in the teacher’s comment in the last panel.
Rex – Abbey must be the dog’s name; Brittany is a breed of dog.Judge Parker – There is more than meets the eye in this would-be assassin. Maybe she left the intelligence unit because she wasn’t very good at killing.A3G – Margo is painting the nursery – in heels. Mary Worth – The can-collector is showing sympathy for Nolo and may have some words of wisdom. It has been noted that apparently poor people are more apt to put something in the Salvation Army buckets. (The more affluent may write checks, or they may not). BTW, in Kansas, we don’t pay a deposit, but aluminum cans are worth collecting for their recycling value.
I left a bag of aluminum cans out this morning for the recycling truck and it was gone before he got here. Scavenging is one thing, but going through the curbside recycling is a crime in most states.
@FLORCHI: I only redeem them in NY, but, for health reasons, I drink very little soda, so it’s rare and I don’t drink beer (I’m a teetoler), so Imrarely have anything to redeem. Here in Miami I make sure that what’s recyclable gets recycled, even if I hafta take it to the Publix recycle bins.
However, I do see people collecting bottles in Miami, so I imagine theres some kind of market for them.

REX MORGAN: Abbey is the dog. She’s referred to twice as a Brittany though I’ve never heard of that breed.
