Priests were allowed to be married, until the Middle Ages. But if your are married, your estate goes to your family. If you are unmarried your estate goes to the state (AKA the King).
There was a mutual back-scratching going on. You could not become King of France without the blessing of the Pope and vice-versa. So they often made laws benefiting each other.
This is one of the reasons I decided to join the Episcopal Church. I am not a feminist. I am a peoplist. It just so happens that about half of people are female.
Actually, some Catholics priests ARE married. Eastern Rite priests can be married, and Anglican priests who convert are often placed into the Catholic priesthood, and remain married.
The celibate priesthood is not considered doctrine, it’s just a practice, and they can change it any time.
It seems odd for the Catholic Church to have a rule in place that would keep Peter out of the priesthood.
God the Father and the Holy Spirit don’t have a gender. But, it took us a while to realize that.
The early humans couldn’t conceive of beings who were pure spirit, non-corporeal. They couldn’t conceive of beings who were transcendental, existing outside of our space and time. So, they imagined God as a powerful human male.
Jesus was a recognized Rabbi. One of the requirements for a rabbi is to be married. It’s wondered by many if the wedding at Cana had Jesus as the groom. Some, if not many, believe that the “beloved apostle” was Mary and that she was Jesus’ wife; if so, the natural jealousy of the other apostles would explain the church’s attitudes toward women throughout history. If the church does not accept change and reform itself I predict it will not survive this century…

Shouldn’t be a “guy thing” should be a “People thing”

The Church went wrong when the monks took over. Ever since, it’s been a haven for mysogenists and pederasts.

This is 100% my perception – I certainly have little or no fact or theology to back it up.
I think of God the Father more as a parental of either gender in spite of the translation “father.”
God the Son is definitely male.
And somehow I get the feeling that the Holy Spirit is female.
It’s my gut speaking, not my mind.

1 Timothy 2:3: A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
If bishops (head priests) are to be married, there obviously must be married clergy.

Since members of the college of cardinals don’t have to be priests — or male — perhaps Francis should appoint women to that body.

Unfortunately, has been up until now. Perhaps there is hope since faith and charity are still hanging around for some reason.

and many say it was Mary Magdalene who was the Beloved Apostle
