I guess this is supposed to be in the Vatican… and I understand artistic license to make a story point. But the frescoes shown are part of a Legend of St. Francis cycle that is literally painted on the walls of the church in Assissi.
Eh, it’s only about a two hour trip from Rome.
The second one, which Gabby and Leo are passing in the third panel, is another Giotto, Confirmation of the Rule. Innocent III is seen blessing Francis and his fellow monks and their plans to serve as what came to be the Franciscan Order. It’s the basis of a beautiful scene in the movie “Brother Sun, Sister Moon.” [Which, if you haven’t seen it, is well worth tracking down.]
