There are two Gospels for Palm Sunday. There is the Passion which takes longer to read than how long it took for the events actually take place and there is a shorter one which talks about Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem.
The shorter Gospel addresses the enthusiasm of the crowd who greeted Jesus.
At this point in the Gospels, most of the pieces have already been put in place. The big picture is emerging. Things are reaching a fever pitch. You can tell something big is about to happen even if you didn’t “read the back of the book” and already know the spoilers.
They way I put it, “It’s the bottom of the 9th, bases are loaded, two men out, it’s a full count and Jesus is at bat. The crowd is on its feet cheering …”
Given the number of Latino ball players in the major leagues, the above isn’t foo far fetched.
