Pets are companions; they are NOT toys. My husband and I are “the help” to four cats and two dogs, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. The love and affection they give us (yes, even the cats!) is priceless. We can’t imagine life without our four-footed family members.
We all must teach our children pets are not toys. There is nothing more wonderful than seeing the bond between a child and his or her pet if the relationship is one of love and respect. Animals should not be given as “gifts” for Christmas, Easter or any other occasion. Having a pet is not a frivolity but a responsibility to be taken seriously.

No toy ever gave the contentment that a loving ‘pet’ gives to its ‘owner’.

Pet owners are strange and should probably live on a reservation with professional counseling.

Even as not a pet owner…I have a problem with the premise in the cartoon and wouldn’t want kids to see a pet as their personal ‘toy.’

One owns a dog, turtle, hamster, parakeet, horse, etc. But a cat owns you.
