The funny thing about this comic strip appearing on February 3 is that there is absolutely nothing unusual about taking down a Christmas tree the day after Candlemas, the actual official end of the Christmas season. Many Christians, particularly in certain cultures, leave their Christmas decorations up through February 2, Candlemas, the day celebrated for Mary presenting Jesus 40 days after birth. Now, taking the Christmas tree “out” does suggest a live tree, and that might be a little unusual this late, unless the tree was replaced sometime in January during the Christmas season with a fresher, less dry one. :)

nickje310: With most Christians, Christmastide ends twelve days later on Epiphany. Of course, with the Orthodox staying with the Julian calendar, not all agree when Christmas is.
