Caulfield: Supposedly in the future, the highest-paying jobs will be ones we can't even imagine today! That's why I'm going to be a teacher! Frazz: Um...that job exists. Caulfield: And I can't imagine it will be one of the highest-paying ones. Frazz: Well, it should. Caulfield: I'm tying to game the system here, Frazz! Stay with me!
This will never happen, unfortunately. It is easy to pull money from things where the consequences are down the road – education, maintenance, and so forth. When budgets are tight, or someone just doesn’t want to raise prices/taxes, you just cut those things that don’t see an immediate result. Doesn’t matter that it will cost more to fix them later, or will cause more problems later – that’s all in the future. And when that future comes, people just gripe about having to pay so much for something that could have been much cheaper if it was dealt with at the time.
