A tad melodramatic, and yet…youth is made up of such, with the personal amplifier turned ’way up…yeah, to eleven.

Frazz is one of tne most surreptitiously highbrow strips out there. Today’s borders on the surreal. Wonderful work as always.

I fully support the nurffy ball movement.

Plastic surgery to fix a badly busted nose ain’t cheap and can be very painful. My home town school banned the game AFTER a 4th grader got badly injured. She was a pretty girl before the accident, she did not look the same after. Her face and nose were a freaking mess.

There’s too many other games that give you good exercise and don’t encourage kids to try and brutalize each other.

While I also loathed dodgeball, I feel it was excellent for showing what kinds of impact a person can survive. I think dodgeball establishes support for informed bravery when needed. And quick sidestepping can often save one’s own life (not everyone can get that from tennis or snow skiing).

“Nerfy”? That’s a new one ….LOVE the visuals on this one, though.

the cubs in my pack love playing dodgeball, but we mostly use utility balls – not as hard as volley balls, but they do have some oomph. I’ve yet to see (knocking on wood) any kid hurt while playing, although we are very emphatic that they must aim for below the waist.

I’d think getting hit in the stomach with a medicine ball, like I did , is a lot worse than with a regular ball that’s used in dodgeball.

So are the pictures Hamlet, St. Sebastian, and Santiago from Old Man and the Sea? All people who were tested by their trials?

We always used the old playground balls/kickballs. They stung just enough to make it worth it, but they also were just soft enough so a full on blast in the face would water your eyes, but not do any real damage. Perfect compromise.
