With her seniority under a union contract, she should be raking it in.

If by “raking it in” you mean making a living wage.

The unions have so much nerve, it wouldn’t surprise me if they demanded subsidized cigarettes as a benefit. They could point out it saves money in the long run.

As a teacher myself, I can say that the amount I’m allotted on my health care for glasses will only pay for about 1/4 of a pair of glasses at most optical dispensers. I do know people in other jurisdictions that have slightly better eye wear coverage, though.

I read just last night that in New York City, just the TAXES on a single pack of cigarettes is almost $6.50. Add to that the actual cost of the tobacco and I wonder how anyone can afford to smoke.

I’m sure it’s not like this everywhere, but the average teacher salary here in Sacramento County, CA, is $60,000+ for a 182 day work-year. Pay into retirement system but no Social Security, and retire at 62 with 60% of final salary.
