CAREER WEEK.
Girl: I want to be a plumber because they get to go to Disney World all the time. Miss Plainwell: Where did you get that? Girl: Every time one leaves our house my dad says, "There goes our Disney trip."
In the eastern sierra, plumbers charge $90 “travel time” just to show up, then $90 per hour to work. Funny how its always an extra trip for them for everyone in town. A 20 minute job with simple parts is over $200.
Three years ago, kitchen sink backed up. Didn’t have a snake to clean it out, called a plumber, he came out, wheeled in an electric snake, was outta there in 15 minutes…$240.00!Bought a 100’ snake.($45.00) and that’s the last time I’ll ever call a plumber unless, of course, it’s outside and then only as a last resort.
Well, there’s some stuff that I’m simply not competent at. Like installing valves when soldering is required. I’ve botched enough stuff over the years to know what I can and can’t do. Sometimes plumbers, expensive though they be, are worth it.
This was a fun strip. That said, I’d like to say that I went on a mission trip to Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina. I cannot understand how anyone can disrespect the so-called “blue collar” workers who have the vital knowledge of how to put things together!

Plumbing the depths of the paternal mind. Not always easy to flush out the true meaning.
