Expiration of bananas is different for different people. My wife will not eat one if it has even one tiny brown spot on it. However I’ve met people who like them brown and soft.

They’re still trying to breed bananas that have the funny little pricing bars on them.

My husband thinks they’re bad when they get a little brown. I have to open it up and show him the inside is still good! If there is any brown on the actual banana I give it to the dog. He usually likes it. If it’s too ripe that the dog won’t eat it, then it’s time to toss ’em. ;)

When the banana turns brown and mushy, it’s time to make banana nut bread.

Some people just like wasting food. I was brought up differently. I can’t throw out food that’s still edible, even though brown bananas are sweeter than I like them.

Bananas have cancer fighting properties. The more brown spots they have the more fighting power they have.

When I was a kid, I used to beg my mom to let me eat the green bananas- the greener the better. Still enjoy an occasional unripe one.

I remember using “banana oil” on my model airplane tissue – to tighten it.

Does anyone know what the problem is with Alexikakos? Any mention of food or drink and we get a lot of wasted space with recipes or wikipedia information.

Strod: Amory Lovins grew bananas in a passive (no non-solar heat) greenhouse in the ski country of northern New Mexico..todyoung: Amyl nitrate is a petroleum product, only smells like bananas. It is also good for softening dried out (but not totally hard) Plastic Wood putty.

rshive: It may be too late. In order to get seedless fruit, bananas are cloned – all of them are genetically identical. A disease is now attacking them and there is no genetic diversity to develop an immune strain. The food may become extinct in our lifetime.
