Something rarely seen in a Frazz strip, two kids interacting with one another, and no adults speaking. We usually had dinner at 3:00, leftovers around 8:00, and by 9:00, nothing left to toss.

Schedule conflicts brings two different ‘shifts’ to dinner. Leftovers last less than 24 hours. Good for cleaning out the frig and dishwasher. Sad for the guy who opens the frig on Fri, looking for the making of a turkey, cranberry sauce, and oyster dressing sandwich. But, since the most important ‘leftover’ are the great memories of family and laughter, I still feel blessed. I hope each of you do, too.

I must need more coffee…. I do not get the joke here today. What is the humor about regret being on Saturday or Sunday? I know she is thinking the turkey in her lunch this week may be overkill because they will have turkey and turkey leftovers for a few days after Thanksgiving. But the “regret to a new level” part…. it escapes me…. and I presume that is the punchline. If anyone cares to explain and clue me in, I would appreciate it.

My mother packed away the Thanksgiving leftovers in the freezer Thursday night (except a couple of slices of turkey and some cranberry sauce if my Dad wanted a sandwich). A week or so later, the leftovers emerged served in a hearty casserole. No turkey overdose! As I recall, we did the same thing at Christmas.

Most cultures have a thanksgiving/harvest festival. That is why Canada, with a shorter, but more intense, growing season has theirs in October (also giving a longer distance between it and Christmas, so one isn’t as tired of turkey). First Nations had them long before the European invasion. The first English celebration of thanksgiving in the western hemisphere was in the spring, when the Frobisher expedition had a formal ceremony of thanks for surviving the winter in the high arctic (looking for a northwest passage).

Today’s Canadian TV news featured a story about airport congestion under the headline “Americans going to Turkey!”

What, can’t use the word “Thanksgiving”?
