I don’t run ( like I tell people if you see me running you better run too, because something big with teeth is chasing me and I’m out of ammo), but one of the business bloggers I read does. He even does half marathons for good causes. Recently he noted that his times have gotten slower as he’s aged and the knees ain’t what they use to be. So he has gone to a run/walk format. And when he his times actually got BETTER. He thinks it’s because he doesn’t have the pain slowing him down

This is sort of silly. Anyone who does any sort of consistent exercise knows there will be variations in timing. A person will typically initially improve times and eventually reach a plateau that will be reasonably stable unless the athlete works in other forms of training to try to further boost their abilities. And, in a 10K race, having a variation of 2-3 minutes is fairly normal.

Hey, put it in perspective. This morning I was 3 minutes slower getting from the bedroom to the kitchen.

He just would be unable to run too close consistently so many times. You take the mean average to get the general total.
