That’s Frazz’s influence alright! Feeling superior to other people is what he’s all about.

The performance and self-actualization types will suggest that you have an encouraging catch phrase, a motivational mantra of sorts, handy for those times when a task seems just a little too daunting. I find myself in over my head often enough to have use for a number of mantras, and one of my most effective is, I fear, less charitable than it could be.

“Lesser people than you have pulled this off,” I tell myself.

I’d feel worse about it except I know that once it works, as soon as I do succeed, I’m one of those lesser people than the next person to use that mantra. It’s the circle of life-hacking.

My mantra is simple: “1%” As in, I’m 1% smarter than whatever it is I’m working on. Unless it’s this danged new smart phone. Stupid technology!
