I wonder if Mallett will have anything to say about Mr. Larger than Life Bryant.

I totally understand how being “larger than life” makes it difficult to have an even semi-ordinary life. The problem seems to be that fans just do that to you rather than (mostly) you doing it to yourself… but you still have to act as though people are watching and imitating you. Julian Jaynes (The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind) would have it that people want idols to imitate and show them how to behave. Mebbe so.

I thought the kid’s comment in the last panel was referring to the Kardashians and such.

Again, this really could have run at a better time than a week when a lot of attention is being focused on a man whose post-athletic life seemed to be very full indeed. He won an Oscar, for heaven’s sake.

The famous-for-being-famous are still famous enough to be germane, if not relevant, but for once they’re under a shadow. Just not the shadow you’d wish.

I really see the “famous for being famous” as the final turn of celebrity is when it feeds on itself.
