Maybe it was a devious neighbor that got him thinking about how many bags of leaves he can rake.

Well, without diapers, you’d have been spreading, um, sheet… right?

That’s not a trait of an engineer, unless he is using the data to construct something. Just counting filled bags would be possible a mahmetician, or more likely someone on the autistic spectrum.

I bet his dad kept a spreadsheet on how many diapers he filled

Perhaps he is an amateur horticulturalist, and seeing if rainfall, solar radiation, and temperature are affecting leaf production.

I would have guessed accountant.

Technologists want to be engineers. Engineers want to be physicists. Physicists want to be mathematicians. Mathematicians want to be philosophers.

Philosophers want to be employed.

There’s an App for that! My daughter and her partner have a newborn boy and I kid you not, they track his drinks, pee and poo with a mobile phone App… How did we not all die off before the age of one, I’ll never know!
