Dogs — and cats too — seem to instinctively know when a trip to the vet is in the offing. My cat loves to go places and is right by her carrier, clamoring to get in when I bring it out, EXCEPT when it’s for a trip to the vet. Somehow she knows, and is nowhere to be seen.

My cat used to be like that, but my dogs actually like going to the vets. I think because the waiting room has lots of fascinating smells. They’re always pretty keen to leave too though!

They ALWAYS know. We could never fool our Sheltie. My Dad once tried to tell Mom he was taking Corky to the vet by passing her a note…and he still figured it out

I feed my cats in their carriers, so that they associate them with food. They are OK until the car starts moving, then the male starts yowling, the female is OK for the most part. At the vet, it takes a few minutes before he settles down. Both cats are OK with the actual exam and shots, but the yowling from the male starts again on the way home. But two minutes after getting back home it’s as if nothing had ever happened.
