    ’thongs is a different item of attire here… best call them flipflops to avoid embarrassing misunderstandings.

    Me too! I bought them for my kids once and refuse to anymore. I also don’t like them for myself. It’s sandals or shoes for me in the summer.

    Thongs were what we called them when we were kids, too. But as GrimmaTheNome said, Thong means something entirely different now. I still slip now and then and call them thongs.

    Lightenup, I hate the supermarket variety as well, but Crocs makes a flip-flop/zori/thong that has great arch and metatarsal support and is so comfortable to wear that I practically live in them.
