it’s not “exponential,” but over that amount of time, the interest compounds

I’ll just bet that when England went to decimal coinage instead of pounds, shillings and pence, that 99 percent of the kids in England after that lost the ability to do that!

It takes LOTS of practice and there is nothing that promotes practice as much as making sure you get the right change when you buy something!

It’s for the same reason that I oppose the whole metric system! If you can’t deal with there are 12 inches in a foot, you need a course in bonehead arithmetic instead of a new measuring system!!

Sorry, Fred, if I could see it written out like in this strip, I could do that, but I’m NOT good at holding numbers in my head while I try to figure out the answer all in my memory!

Might want to rethink that. The answer is 252.

I guess I read too quickly – I didn’t even stop to try it before reading the Missus’ answer.

Took me about 35 or 40 seconds. I was never very good at doing math in my head.

One of my favorite games while commuting is to break license plate numbers down into their prime factors.

I can’t make the calculations and count how long it takes at the same time, and I don’t have a chronometer. I did the part within the parentheses first (6), then divide by 2 (3), multiply by 12 (36) and then by 7 (252), but I don’t know how long it took me.

Now kids…..play nice already will ya. Jerry be proud of the math geek that you are. Wish I could be one too but alas, I had to write it out. Too many numbers to keep straight with all the other junk rattling around up there. Didn’t take too long, but I know it wasn’t close to 22 seconds. I did get the correct answer so YAY me.
