Yes, of course our letters come in through the letterbox. Having to traipse outside to get the post if it’s raining is just uncivilized ;-). And newspapers…. I never could get used to the paper being tossed onto the front lawn when I lived in the US, often as not inadequately wrapped so it was sometimes useless and soggy. Maybe works ok in desert climates but not in Pennsylvania.
OTOH our letters are liable to be bitten as the dog enthusiastically helps them through the slot!
Mail is still delivered to the door in the Twin Cities, and much of the inner suburbs. However, we have lived in the outer burbs since 1971, and we still have what is called rural delivery. You can opt out of rural delivery, if there is a box available at the post office. As for the paper, the St. Paul paper was delivered to the door; but, the Minneapolis paper was dropped somewhere on the driveway or front lawn, depending on the attitude of the paper “boy”!
We have a mailbox like that. We dog sat a friends dog who hated the mail. She ripped the cover right off the mail box. She didn’t eat any bill though, doggone it.
