Ah yes! I’m quite familiar with those books as I’ve read quite a few over the years. That’s a bad thing about being a dog – you can’t read. On the other hand, you have a superior nose that can enjoy that fresh cut grass scent in the spring, the heady scent of blooming lilacs and roses and other flowers more than we people can. Trade offs. Life is all about them.

I am working through the Kerry Greenwood series of Miss Fisher. So much more in the books than the TV series.

At least she in getting you to the park and giving you walks Fred! Maybe it is a book about a friendly basset whose simple shenanigans helps bring people a smile every day. Just a thought!

I love books like that, but I have to put them down. My older eyes can no longer take that much reading. Additionally I still have to work, so so some days I can only squeeze in a half hour of reading time.

Hopefully Mrs. Dear wasn’t too distracted while cooking, or the meal might have come out like Flo Capp made it

This strip reminds me of the Disney cartoon version of Ichabod Crane who was nearly always reading a book even while eating. In Washington Irving’s original story, Ichabod’s favourite book was “A History of Witchcraft in New England” which fed his superstitious nature.

I first learned about Ichabod Crane and Sleepy Hollow from an episode of the 1970s cartoon “The Funky Phantom”. I saw the Disney cartoon about a year later. This was about two years before I discovered the animated cartoon of Fred Basset in 1977 and then the comic strip.
