Eventually he will notice you took yourself off. I know how you feel. Sometimes you just have to have a change. If you don’t get it, you’ll scream. In your case I guess that would be a howl. I think Mr. Dear will be amenable to a change. He can be open-minded.

You better turn around and catch up Fred. Or after this Dear won’t take you out of the house unless you’re on a leash.

Fred makes another detour and goes where he wants to go.

Since one cannot be in the past or in the future, he’s correct.

Our previous house there were only two routes for walks: uphill block or downhill block. Many more options here.
