There are all sorts of implications here. Like, probably only between one and two billion of those 6.7 billion people are Christian and subscribe to the Ten Commandments in the first place. Is that why God is mad? Is this a general-commentary-on-the-lack-of-morality joke, or a smite-the-sinners-who-don’t-recognize-the-One-True-God piece?

I don’t know who wouldn’t want the 10 Commandments. They’re pretty good rules to live by even if you’re not a religious type. At least the ones about not coveting, not stealing, not bearing false witness. Maybe we could whittle em down to 7 and leave out the religion specific ones for those who would be offended (there’s that word again).

Why on earth is not seething a kid in its mother’s milk or keeping the feast of unleavened bread good rules to live by? FYI I will post the Ten Commandments here:

    I. Thou shalt worship no other god. II. Thou shalt make thee no molten gods. III.. The feast of unleavened bread thou shalt keep IV. Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest. V. Thou shalt observe the feast of weeks, of the first fruits of wheat harvest, and the feast of ingathering at the year’s end. VI. Thrice In the year shall all your men children appear before the Lord God. VII. Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leaven. VIII. Neither shall the sacrifice of the feast of the passover be left unto the morning. IX. The first of the first fruits of thy land thou shalt bring unto the house of the LORD thy God. X. Thou shalt not seethe a kid [ie, a young goat] in his mother’s milk.

I fail to see how these Bronze Age superstitions could possibly be considered relevant any more.

Valis, I think he meant the other ten, from Deuteronomy, not the Ritual Decalogue. Mind you, good point that the cherry-picking and interpretation has been going on for millennia.

Seethed in his mother’s milk is the only way I’ll eat young goat, with some tomatoes and garlic, of course….I’m sorry about coveting my neighbor’s wife, but she’s a fox, and if I ever get a chance…..

Good idea. The tag line can be: Take two tablets and worship me in the morning.
